Inspired by a local mother of a toddler who won a portrait giveaway on the artist's Instagram, Ezgi Iraz depicts a rare moment of personal ritual. Through observing this dedicated mother’s unwavering commitment to surviving and providing for her family, Iraz emphasizes how rare and important those quiet afternoons are when a mother rests in her muʻumuʻu between the endless demands of caretaking. A reclining woman on a floor sofa, a book titled Rest is Resistance in her hands, her cat curled contentedly beside her, and a nearby vase of flowers frame this serene room. This composition explores themes of self-preservation, maternal labor, and intentional pause, showing that she is not doing nothing—she is doing everything. The narrative serves as a reminder to honor the body's need for stillness in a world that demands constant productivity. The work draws upon Islamic art, daily life in the islands, and Ezgi Iraz’s diasporic narrative, navigating the complexities of belonging, longing, and cultural memory through her personal lens as a guest artist who is actively questioning her own place within the diaspora by fusing Ottoman Turkish influences with local life. The painting frames rest as a radical act, encouraging women to reclaim stillness as a source of strength against capitalist hustle culture.

Each print is hand-signed by the artist and printed on archival museum-grade matte paper for lasting beauty.
