{"title":"Rest is Resistance","description":"\u003cp\u003eIn this painting, a woman claims her right to rest—reclining on a floor sofa, gracefully draped in her muʻumuʻu, a haku lei adorning her hair. She holds a book titled Rest is Resistance, echoing the message that rest is not idleness but a vital act of self-care and resistance. Her cat curls beside her, unbothered and at ease, while a vase of flowers adds gentle beauty to the room's stillness. Here, she is not doing nothing—she is doing everything her spirit and body need. This artwork celebrates the revolutionary act of slowing down and honoring the body’s need for stillness in a world that demands constant productivity. Rendered in pen on watercolor paper, with deliberate sketches of shadow and light, the piece draws inspiration from Islamic art, Hawaiʻi’s muʻumuʻu community, the artist’s daily rhythms, and the Rest is Resistance movement. Ezgi painted this piece while reading Tricia Hersey’s Rest is Resistance, infusing the work with the spirit of radical rest. Through this scene, the artist hopes to inspire women to embrace rest as their birthright and a gentle, necessary form of resistance.
